Winter X Games 12 $1,000,000 Purse & HD Broadcast

At the upcoming 2008 Winter X Games athletes from around the globe in the sports of skiing, snowboard and snowmobiling will be competing for a million dollars in prize money, this will be the first million dollar purse in X Games history. Medalists will see the largest increase, with first-place finishers receiving 50 percent more than last year. The overall purse for Winter X Games 12 increased by 38 percent from last year. Hopefully the athletes will improve their performance accordingly, j/k.

If a million dollar prize purse means nothing to you because you just enjoy watching it on tv, then you should be excited that ESPN HD and ABC HD will be airing all 15 hours of Winter X Games 12 in high-definition, January 24 through January 27, 2008 live from Aspen, Colorado. That is around a 500 percent increase in resolution from standard definition, take that prize purse.

Buttermilk Mountain at Aspen/Snowmass will continue to host the Winter X Games through 2010. The event includes day and evening competitions and is free to the public.
