Seven Sunny Days

Matchstick Productions came through Denver yesterday to show their newest offering “Seven Sunny Days: Short Stories from a Long Winter”. The Gothic Theatre was packed and everybody was clamoring for a good view of the screen while the DJ was on stage pumping up the crowd with some hip hop. When it came time for the movie to start (late as always) Mark Amba had just arrived, he ran on stage to assist in the giveaways then it was showtime. Overall the pre-show festivities seemed mellow compared to last weeks premiere of Real Time, maybe because it was a Thursday (Boulder gets the Friday show).

As for the movie, there was no real theme and no fancy transitions between segments, just some kick ass skiing. The narration and interviews really helped to understand what the athletes were feeing and give more depth to the movie, especially CR’s segment. I think there were not enough urban rails in the movie, but they made up for that with the Whistler park segment, the shots from the heli at sunset gave me the chills, you have to see it to believe. There was too much going on to cover it all, but some other highlights include: McConkey’s 007 segment, India, Ingrid Backstrom’s butt, Jon Olsson’s new tricks, and Mike Douglas’s helmet/ski cam segment. It is so damn hard to try and review these ski movies because I them love them all, I give Seven Sunny Days 8 thumbs up, don’t ask what that means just watch it for your self.
